Fatal Memphis shooting death of Anthony Smith – Obituary
New details have emerged regarding the tragic shooting of 18-year-old Anthony Smith at Tom Lee Park in Memphis. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 13, during a local food truck festival.
At approximately 6:46 p.m., officers on patrol heard gunshots from within the park. Upon arrival, they found Smith, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Smith had been in a verbal altercation with two women before the shooting took place. According to an affidavit, Smith and the women pulled out firearms during the argument, and Smith was overheard saying, “I’ll do it to ya!” before the women walked away.
One of the women, later identified as Latoriana Lindsey, was advised not to shoot in broad daylight by another woman. However, as the situation escalated, a group surrounded Smith, and one person reportedly shouted, “If you don’t shoot him, I will!”
Smith’s girlfriend identified Lindsey as the one who fired the fatal shots. Surveillance footage captured Lindsey fleeing the scene following the shooting. Lindsey, 18, was arrested on April 29 and charged with first-degree murder.
