James Baldwin Jr. dies in fatal Henry County shooting

Fatal Henry County shooting death of James Baldwin Jr. – Obituary

Authorities in Henry County have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of James Baldwin Jr., 34, who was found dead along the side of Lee’s Ridge Road. Investigators confirmed Baldwin had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the report of a deceased individual on Tuesday, April 29. As the case developed, the Martinsville Police Department joined the investigation and traced the incident back to a home on Ridge Road in Martinsville, where a search warrant was executed.

According to officials, the evidence gathered from the residence confirmed that the fatal shooting occurred inside the home. Baldwin’s body was later found discarded near the road.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting a detailed autopsy to gather further information on the circumstances of Baldwin’s death.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement is interviewing several individuals believed to be connected to the case. A gold 2022 Chevrolet Trax with Virginia license plate TGB-2200 was previously sought in relation to the incident but has since been located thanks to a community tip.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Detective Steven Rogers at 276-403-5331 or 276-638-8751, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 276-632-7463.
