Miles Dignean, 34, was fatally shot by an Oswego County Sheriff’s Deputy on March 21, 2025, after a confrontation during a welfare check at a residence on Cook Road. Authorities said Dignean, while struggling with officers, swung a metal object at a state trooper, injuring the officer.
The situation escalated, leading to a deputy firing at Dignean. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead later that afternoon. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident, as per state law, since a civilian died during a law enforcement encounter.
