The Unified Police Department has identified 16-year-old Elijah Exodus Bustamante Martinez, a student at Hillcrest High School, as the victim in a tragic car accident that occurred on March 22, 2025. Martinez was driving west on Fort Union Boulevard when his vehicle collided with a parked semi-truck.
It is believed that Martinez swerved to avoid another vehicle and lost control of his car on the wet roads. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Donny Gabriel Castro Hernandez, suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital. As of the latest update on March 24, Hernandez remains in critical but stable condition.
The Unified Police Department has expressed their condolences to the family and friends of Martinez during this difficult time.
