McKenzie Scott dies in fatal Las Vegas car crash

Fatal Las Vegas car crash death of McKenzie Scott – Obituary

McKenzie Scott, a high school senior from Arbor View High School, was fatally struck by a vehicle on Friday morning near her school in Las Vegas while crossing the street to collect her graduation cap and gown.

The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. in the 7500 block of Whispering Sands Drive, close to North Buffalo Drive. Emergency crews transported Scott to a nearby hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

Friends and family gathered at a vigil Friday night to remember McKenzie, describing her as a bright and joyful presence with aspirations in forensic science. She had earned a scholarship to study at UNLV.

The driver involved, 37-year-old Keenan Jackson, remained at the scene and was arrested. Authorities believe impairment and possibly speeding contributed to the crash. Jackson faces multiple charges, including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving causing death or serious injury, and driving without a valid license.

The Clark County School District expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, with Superintendent Jhone Ebert emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and support for student safety. Counseling services have been made available for students and staff at Arbor View High School as they cope with the sudden loss.
