Fatal Rutherford County hit-and-run crash death of Orrin Craig Murray – Obituary

Authorities are actively searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run incident that took the life of 67-year-old Orrin Craig Murray early Thursday morning along Old Nashville Highway, near Murray Lane, in Rutherford County.

Murray, a La Vergne resident, was walking near his home when he was fatally struck by a vehicle sometime between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Christine Murray, a lifelong friend and neighbor, spoke fondly of Orrin, recalling their shared history in the neighborhood and as members of the same motorcycle club. She described him as a kind and upright man who stayed active in his later years, often walking to a nearby store multiple times each day.

“He was always on foot, walking this road daily,” Christine shared. “We’d sit and talk about old times whenever he passed by.”

The news of his sudden death has left the community shaken and seeking answers. Christine expressed deep sorrow and a plea for accountability, saying, “Whoever did this should face justice. It’s terrible to leave someone like that.”

Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen the incident or has any information about the vehicle or driver involved to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol Emergency Dispatch at 615-744-309 and ask for Trooper Lloyd Elliott.
