Fatal San Diego shooting death of Eric Kulakow – Obituary

Eric Kulakow, 59, was shot and killed by San Diego Police snipers during a standoff on March 25 in the Miramar Ranch North neighborhood.

Authorities reported that the fatal shooting occurred after Kulakow allegedly threatened construction workers and a pest-control employee with a firearm, eventually pointing it at police officers.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. on Angelique Street and Cypress Canyon Road, prompting a response from the SDPD SWAT team.

The events leading up to the shooting began earlier in the day when police received a call about Kulakow pointing a gun at a construction crew near Interstate 15.

As officers were on their way, Kulakow reportedly threatened an Orkin pest-control worker, causing the employee to seek refuge in his vehicle. In response to the escalating situation, SWAT officers and negotiators were called in to assist.

When law enforcement arrived and found Kulakow still holding the weapon, they attempted to negotiate with him. After Kulakow allegedly refused to drop the gun, officers set up a perimeter and attempted to contain the situation.

The standoff lasted approximately an hour, during which Kulakow reportedly aimed his weapon at the officers. In response, SDPD Officers Brandon Jordan and Chris Lingenhol fired on Kulakow, fatally wounding him. The weapon was found near his body after he collapsed.

The reasons behind Kulakow’s behavior remain unclear, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities are currently reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
