John Bezold, 59, of California, Kentucky, was killed in a boating accident on Lake Cumberland Sunday evening, according to the Wayne County Coroner.

The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the White Oak Creek section of the lake. Authorities reported that the crash involved only one boat and that Bezold was the sole occupant.

Fishermen in the area discovered Bezold in the water and immediately contacted emergency services. First responders arrived at the scene, but he was already deceased.

Coroner Gordon Hicks confirmed the victim’s identity and stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
