Fatal Greeley, Kansas car crash death of Donald “DJ” Laster – Obituary

Donald “DJ” Laster, a student at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, was one of four individuals from the Tulsa area who tragically lost their lives in a vehicle collision Sunday evening in Kansas. The crash occurred near Greeley, Kansas, around 5:45 p.m. as the group was returning from a youth basketball tournament.

According to Tulsa Public Schools, Laster was among three local education community members who died, including transportation department staffer Ja’mon Gilstrap and Wayne Walls, a former coach and teacher at Carver Middle School. Another unidentified student from Union Public Schools was also killed in the crash.

While the precise circumstances remain under review by Kansas authorities, early reports suggest it was a two-car accident that also claimed the lives of four other individuals. A fifth person was hospitalized with injuries.

Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson expressed deep sorrow, stating the entire district is grieving the loss of a student, a longtime coach, and a valued staff member. She emphasized their impact on the school community and called for continued support for those affected.

Union Public Schools also confirmed the loss of one of their ninth-grade students but has not released the student’s name. Counselors and mental health professionals are currently available to students and staff in both districts to help cope with the tragedy.

The accident took place along U.S. Highway 169, roughly three miles northeast of Greeley. Authorities have not released the names of the individuals in the second vehicle involved.

This story is still developing, and more details will be shared as they are confirmed.
