Fatal Cottage Grove car crash death of Kami Hansen – Obituary

Dr. Kami Hansen, a respected chiropractor and Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce board member, lost her life on April 28 after being struck by a vehicle while walking with her family and their dog. The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. near the Grand Appliance and TV warehouse.

The driver, identified by authorities as 49-year-old Cottage Grove resident Jeffrey Endres, has been formally charged with first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and one count of mistreatment of animals.

Police reports indicate that Endres’ vehicle veered off the road, plowed through a fence, and hit Hansen, launching her 25 to 30 feet before she struck the building. She was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries during surgery.

The crash also left Hansen’s husband, Paul Hansen, and their son Riley injured. Riley required surgery, while Paul did not need immediate treatment. Their black pit-bull terrier also died at the scene.

The Hansen family had been on a walk at the time, and Paul Hansen reported hearing a car accelerate before it came directly toward them. One of their other children, who saw the incident unfold from the backyard, ran out yelling that Endres had intentionally tried to run them over.

Endres, a former friend and neighbor of the Hansens, was found at the crash site and admitted to being the driver. The two families had previously been close, with their children on the same gymnastics team. However, the relationship deteriorated in March after Riley was accused of abusing one of Endres’ children.

Court documents show that Endres opposed Riley’s return to the neighborhood, but Riley was allowed to remain at home. On the day of the crash, Endres received redacted police reports related to the accusations against Riley just hours before the incident.

According to Paul Hansen, Endres’ actions were deliberate and in response to the earlier allegations involving his child.
