Fatal San Bernardino County car crash death of Sailor A. Martinez – Obituary
Ten-year-old Sailor A. Martinez of Barstow was among four people who lost their lives in a devastating single-vehicle rollover crash along Interstate 40 near Hector Road on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The California Highway Patrol responded around 7:45 a.m. after a 2012 Dodge Ram driven by a 35-year-old Yermo man veered off the westbound I-40 and overturned several times on the dirt shoulder. The vehicle carried three juvenile passengers—two boys and a girl.
Sadly, all four individuals in the vehicle were declared dead at the crash site, including Sailor Martinez. The driver’s connection to the young passengers has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
The CHP has reported that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have contributed to the tragic accident.
CHP Barstow Area Lieutenant Adam Carmichall offered condolences to the families and emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, seatbelt use, and avoiding distracted or impaired driving.
San Bernardino County Fire noted that emergency responders were stretched thin over the weekend due to multiple crashes on I-15 and I-40, further complicated by poor weather conditions impacting helicopter rescue efforts.
This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with details is urged to contact Officer S. Herrera at (760) 255-5900.
