Fatal St. Louis shooting death of Christina Lynn Rentchler – Obituary
A tragic shooting in the Fairground Park area of St. Louis on April 23 claimed the lives of 35-year-old Christina Lynn Rentchler and her unborn baby. Authorities say the suspected gunman, 28-year-old Vanier J. Jones, is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and several other felonies.
Jones has been formally accused of killing Rentchler, who was in her second trimester, by shooting her several times, including a fatal shot to the back of the head. The violent act occurred in the presence of five children, ranging in age from 2 to 10, prompting additional charges of child endangerment and armed criminal action.
A second woman who was also shot in the same home managed to survive. She later told investigators that Jones had been staying at the residence and attacked her during an argument. She pretended to be dead after being shot and reportedly overheard Jones questioning the children about their mother’s whereabouts.
Following his arrest, Jones allegedly attempted to provide an alibi, but the person he named told police they were not with him at the time and that he had admitted to the shooting. At the time of the incident, Jones was on parole for a prior assault conviction. He is currently in custody without bond as he awaits his initial court appearance.
