Fatal Akron death of Xavier Menefee – Obituary
The skeletal remains discovered last week at an Akron homeless encampment have been identified as 22-year-old Xavier Menefee from Canton. Menefee, who had been missing for over nine months in Summit County, was confirmed through dental records by Gary Guenther, the chief investigator at the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Menefee had been a missing person on Akron police’s list since late July or early August of the previous year, with concerns raised about his mental health and possible drug use. His disappearance had caught the attention of authorities for several months.
The remains were discovered after a call to Akron police about a fight on Silver Avenue in Cascade Valley. When officers arrived, they were directed to a trash bag that contained human remains, and further investigation led them to find additional skeletal remains nearby in a fire pit.
It is still unknown when Menefee passed away. He was a former student at GlenOak High School, where he played on the varsity lacrosse team as a sophomore during the 2018-2019 school year. His LinkedIn profile revealed that he was expected to graduate in 2021 and had worked as a funeral home assistant between 2019 and 2020.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing, and further details have yet to be disclosed.
