Fatal Gage Park shooting death of Mario Jaime – Obituary

Mario Jaime, 35, was shot and killed on the evening of May 5, 2025, while standing outside near his home in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Authorities reported that a vehicle approached around 7:20 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, and someone inside opened fire, hitting Jaime in the face and abdomen. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Jaime lived on the same block where the shooting took place. In the minutes following the attack, neighbors gathered near the scene as detectives worked outside two brick homes marked with evidence cones.

Emotions ran high as onlookers, including children and families, tried to make sense of what happened. A woman in a car, visibly grieving, paused at the scene and tearfully indicated the spot where Jaime had been before the shooting.

At this time, police say no suspects are in custody. Area One detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
