Mykel Washington, 28, lost his life in a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon near a convenience store on Archdale Drive in south Charlotte, not far from the Interstate 77 exit.
Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. and found Washington deceased. Two other individuals, identified as 26-year-old Domonique Chisholm and 24-year-old Daniel Houser, were critically injured and transported to Atrium Health Main for treatment.
Law enforcement officials stated that violent incidents in the area have been a persistent issue. Major Ryan Kendall emphasized the community impact of such events, noting that violent confrontations often result in devastating outcomes.
Nearby resident Kamil Taimon reflected on the emotional toll such violence takes on families. Having experienced the loss of her own daughter to homicide in 2018, she expressed deep sympathy for the grieving relatives of the victim.
Authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the shooting, and no further information has been released. Investigators continue to work on the case.
