Authorities have identified 62-year-old Rodney Hupp as the man who was fatally shot in his home in Vancouver, Washington, early on the morning of May 3, 2025. The incident occurred after individuals suspected of prowling cars allegedly accessed his home using a stolen garage door opener.

According to police, Hupp had a rental vehicle parked in his driveway on Southeast French Road, where his garage opener was kept. Investigators believe the suspects broke into the car, retrieved the opener, and used it to enter his garage.

Hupp reportedly confronted the intruders inside his residence and was subsequently shot. Police stated the attackers fled the scene after the shooting, which appears to have been a random act of violence.

The Clark County Medical Examiner confirmed Hupp’s identity on Tuesday. Authorities are actively seeking leads and have asked anyone with relevant information to contact the Vancouver Police Department.
