Fatal Groton car crash death of Vanessa Pettengill – Obituary

Vanessa Pettengill, a 45-year-old woman from Norwich, died following a single-vehicle crash on Fort Hill Road in Groton Wednesday afternoon, according to the Town of Groton Police Department.

Authorities say Pettengill was driving a 2006 Subaru eastbound when her vehicle collided with a utility pole near the area between Depot Road and South Road. The crash prompted several 911 calls around 1:22 p.m., and officers arrived at the scene to find Pettengill unresponsive with critical injuries.

She was the only occupant in the car. Emergency personnel transported her to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, where she was later pronounced dead.

The section of Fort Hill Road impacted by the crash was closed during the investigation and reopened around 4:10 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Paul Gately said.
