Fatal Fayette County discovery of remains of Kahleb Collins – Obituary

Authorities in Fayette County, Alabama, have announced that remains believed to be those of 1-year-old Kahleb Collins were located at his family’s property, several months after he went missing.

Law enforcement officials confirmed they uncovered the child’s remains within a burn pile during a recent search of the residence. An anthropologist assisted in the examination and verified that some of the materials recovered were indeed human remains. The remains have been forwarded to forensic experts for official confirmation.

“This is an incredibly tragic development,” said Fayette County Sheriff Byron Yerby. “Our hearts go out to those mourning Kahleb. While this discovery provides some answers, it also underscores the importance of protecting our children. We will continue to seek justice in this matter.”

Kahleb was first reported missing in December 2024 following a deadly car accident involving his family. That crash resulted in the death of an unrestrained 2-year-old child and left Steven Collins, Kahleb’s father, critically injured. Steven later succumbed to his injuries.

On December 17, 2024, an Emergency Missing Child Alert was issued for Kahleb, prompting a broad search effort by various law enforcement agencies.

Recently, Kahleb’s mother, Wendy Bailey, and his grandfather, John Elton Bailey, were indicted by a grand jury. Both have since been arrested and face a series of charges including aggravated child abuse, criminally negligent homicide, domestic violence, and abuse of a corpse.
