Summer Griffin dies in fatal Sandy Hook MARC train accident

Fatal Sandy Hook MARC train accident death of Summer Griffin – Obituary

The Maryland Transit Administration has confirmed that 20-year-old Summer Griffin of Knoxville, Md., was killed on May 6 in a tragic incident involving MARC train 875.

The train, which was traveling westbound from Washington to Martinsburg, struck and killed Griffin and another unidentified individual around 6:15 p.m. while they were walking along the tracks in Sandy Hook, Md.

 

Although the identity of the second victim has not yet been released, officials expect to provide more details soon. The MTA has expressed its condolences to the victims’ families and reminded the public about the dangers of walking on or near railroad tracks.

 

Following the accident, 100 passengers on board the train were transferred to a second train, and train operations resumed with some speed restrictions. The Brunswick Line returned to its normal schedule the following day.
