Chad Perry dies in fatal Cowden shooting

Fatal Cowden shooting death of Chad Perry – Obituary

Chad Perry, 54, of Mattoon, was fatally shot during a disturbance that took place in Cowden on Wednesday night.

Authorities were alerted to the situation around 9:46 p.m. when a 911 call was placed to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered Perry had been shot and later confirmed his death.

The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Trent Buchanan of Cowden, was arrested and taken to the Shelby County Jail. He is currently facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Shelby County Coroner Beth Debolt transported Perry’s body for an autopsy. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is heading the investigation with support from Illinois State Police Crime Scene investigators and the Shelby County State’s Attorney’s Office.
