Camden Jace Poole dies in fatal Richmond County car crash

Fatal Richmond County car crash death of Camden Jace Poole – Obituary

Eight-year-old Camden Jace Poole tragically lost his life in a traffic collision on his birthday at the intersection of Peach Orchard Road and Tobacco Road in Richmond County.

New surveillance footage released by Garry’s Auto Repair has shed light on the crash, which occurred when Lee Earnest Jones Jr., driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, turned left in front of a northbound Hyundai Elantra driven by Kayla Poole, with Camden seated in the back. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office determined that Jones, who was fourth in a line of vehicles turning left, failed to yield while making his turn under a changing traffic light.

As Jones turned, his truck struck the front of Poole’s car, causing both vehicles to spin from the impact. Jones’s vehicle came to rest on the northeast side of the intersection, while Poole’s car ended up in the northbound lane. Camden sustained severe injuries and was transported to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m.

Jones was arrested and charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide and failure to yield. He was booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Both drivers initially claimed they believed they had the right of way, but an eyewitness confirmed that while the light was green for through traffic, Jones had no protected turn signal at the time of the crash.

Jones and his wife publicly expressed sorrow over Camden’s death and extended their condolences to his family, urging for prayers and unity in seeking justice. Meanwhile, a fundraiser organized by Camden’s grandmother has raised nearly $15,000 to help with funeral and medical expenses.
