Authorities in Kern County have released the names of the two young men who lost their lives in a deadly shooting that took place early Saturday morning in Arvin. The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Jesus Amezcua Martinez and 18-year-old Alexander Gonsalez.
The Arvin Police Department responded to several calls reporting gunfire around 4:30 a.m. on May 10, along Bautista Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered both Martinez and Gonsalez outside a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both men were declared deceased at the scene.
Inside the same residence, a juvenile was found injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities say the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Lamont substation, assisted in securing the scene. Investigators believe this was a targeted act and not a threat to the general public.
Police are exploring the possibility that gang activity may have been a factor. As of now, no arrests have been made.
