Fatal Yakima skate park shooting death of Raul Macias – Obituary
Raul Macias, 36, lost his life in a deadly shooting that occurred Monday evening at Chesterly Skate Park in Yakima, Washington. Authorities have confirmed the incident was gang-related and tragically unfolded in front of Macias’s three children.
Yakima Police responded to emergency calls around 7:20 p.m. reporting gunfire near the park on 40th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Macias suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts from both medical personnel and police to resuscitate him, Macias was pronounced dead at the scene.
The park, which was busy at the time, had multiple eyewitnesses who identified a 22-year-old man as the shooter. With assistance from Washington State Patrol troopers and Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies, officers located and apprehended the suspect near the skate park. He was taken into custody without resistance and charged with second-degree murder. According to police, the suspect confessed to firing the fatal shot.
The case is now being handled by the Yakima Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from gang activity and are seeking additional witnesses.
