Fatal Waterbury police custody death of Alyssa Insogna – Obituary
Alyssa Insogna, 29, died over the weekend while being held in custody at the Waterbury Police Department, prompting an investigation by the Connecticut Office of the Inspector General.
Insogna had been arrested on Friday near an abandoned house on Willow Street. Police reported finding several packets of narcotics, later confirmed to be heroin and fentanyl, in her possession. She was also wanted on outstanding warrants and remained in custody due to her inability to post bail, with a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
According to officials, Insogna was seen awake at around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. During a routine cell check around noon, she appeared to be asleep. However, when detention staff checked on her again at 2:23 p.m., she was found unresponsive. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at 2:53 p.m.
An autopsy was performed on Sunday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The cause of death remains undetermined pending toxicology results.
The Inspector General’s Office, which is responsible for reviewing all deaths occurring in law enforcement custody, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Insogna’s death.
