Joene Pease dies in fatal Hamburg house explosion

Fatal Hamburg house explosion death of Joene Pease – Obituary

Joene Pease, a 78-year-old woman, lost her life Monday night in a devastating home explosion on West Lane in Hamburg, New York. Authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband, 78-year-old John Pease, was rescued from the debris and taken to ECMC in critical condition.

The couple were the only occupants in the home at the time of the explosion, which occurred around 8:49 p.m. A dog inside the house managed to survive. The blast was so powerful that neighboring homes were shaken, with some sustaining serious damage. An adjacent unoccupied house caught fire and was later torn down due to the extent of the destruction.

Hamburg police described the scene as total devastation, with the home entirely leveled. While the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, National Fuel reported no issues in the gas system leading up to the property. Multiple departments remain involved in what officials expect will be a prolonged investigation.

One firefighter and one police officer suffered minor injuries during the emergency response but have since been released.
