Fatal Pima County car crash death of Melissa Mendez – Obituary
Melissa Mendez was found dead around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, following a search conducted by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD). Authorities have stated that no immediate evidence of foul play was discovered, though the investigation is still ongoing.
The search began after Mendez’s family contacted law enforcement upon seeing video footage shared online. Initially, deputies at the crash location did not find any individuals present at the scene.
Further inquiries revealed that the car involved in the crash was being driven by the son of the vehicle’s registered owner. According to a statement from PCSD, he was transported away from the crash site in a UTV.
The Tucson Police Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) are working in coordination with PCSD on the case.
In earlier updates, PCSD confirmed that another passenger was in the vehicle and is currently cooperating with detectives. However, their name has not been made public.
Investigators are continuing to establish a detailed timeline of the events. Mendez was reportedly last seen over the weekend—either Saturday or Sunday—though officials are trying to determine the exact time.
As of Monday evening, PCSD was also seeking to speak with the UTV driver who may have given a ride to another individual to the Dollar General Store located in Redrock, Arizona.
