Fatal Indianapolis car crash death of Alan Marcelo Salas-Garcia – Obituary
Four-year-old Alan Marcelo Salas-Garcia tragically lost his life following a crash that occurred around 9:15 p.m. on May 7 at the intersection of East Raymond Street and South State Avenue in Indianapolis. He died at Riley Hospital for Children shortly after the incident.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), a Dodge Charger was speeding and ran a red light at the intersection, crashing into another car that had the right of way, as well as into a bicyclist who was crossing with a green signal. Alan was riding in a bike trailer being pulled by his father at the time of the collision.
The father was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition, while the driver of the other vehicle hit by the Charger was also critically injured.
Police reported that the driver of the Charger fled the scene. Investigators later identified and arrested a 22-year-old man, who now faces preliminary charges including reckless homicide and multiple counts related to fleeing the scene of a fatal and catastrophic crash. Formal charges are pending from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
IMPD officers who were nearby for a training exercise arrived shortly after the crash. Their investigation, which involved interviews with witnesses, surveillance footage, and scene evidence, led to the suspect’s identification.
Chief Chris Bailey of IMPD expressed his sorrow over the incident, saying, “I am heartbroken by the loss of Alan Marcelo Salas-Garcia… No arrest can bring back a life so tragically cut short, but I hope this step brings some measure of comfort.”
