Fatal Johnstown house fire death of Juan Manuel Negrete Martinez – Obituary

Juan Manuel Negrete Martinez, 37, passed away following a house fire in Johnstown, Ohio, on the night of May 10. He died at approximately 11:30 p.m. at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville after being rescued from the burning home.

Firefighters from Monroe Township located Negrete Martinez unresponsive on a couch in the living room when they arrived around 10:28 p.m. at the residence on Butternut Cove Place. The home was filled with intense smoke and heat, although flames were not visible from the outside.

Johnstown police were first to arrive and attempted to remove Negrete Martinez but were unable to do so due to the smoke. Once firefighters extracted him, emergency personnel administered CPR before rushing him to the hospital.

Fire crews battled active flames on the home’s first floor, basement, and stairway to the second level. One police officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation, while another received on-scene medical attention. No further injuries were reported.

An autopsy is planned to confirm the exact cause of death, and the origin of the fire is still under investigation.
