Verna Richards dies in fatal Milwaukee apartment fire

Fatal Milwaukee apartment fire death of Verna Richards – Obituary

Verna Richards, aged 62, has been confirmed as one of the victims who tragically lost her life in the deadly apartment fire that occurred in Milwaukee on Mother’s Day.

The fire began early Sunday morning at an 85-unit apartment building near 27th Street and Highland Boulevard. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames consuming the structure.

Emergency responders conducted multiple rescue operations, using ladders to reach residents on upper floors and navigating through smoke-filled hallways to evacuate others to safety.

Five individuals tragically died in the fire:

Verna Richards, 62

Mark Chaffin, 76

Maureen Green, 67

Torrell Coleman, 40

Shakwanda Harris, 32

As of Tuesday, six others remained in the hospital, with one person in critical condition.

Verna Richards’ family is devastated by her loss. Though more details about her personal life have yet to be shared, her death has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but the uncertainty only adds to the grief felt by the families. The building remains boarded up, and it will be at least a week before residents can retrieve their belongings.

Security concerns have been raised by tenants, but Fire Chief Aaron Lipski assured the public that the building is secure.

The Milwaukee community has come together in mourning, honoring Verna Richards’ memory along with the other victims, and supporting the survivors as they recover.
