Leiver Leonel Montiel Munoz, a 21-year-old resident of Sacramento, was killed in a violent single-car crash early Tuesday morning in Elk Grove. The fatal collision occurred around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Waterman and Sheldon roads, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Munoz was behind the wheel of a vehicle heading north on Waterman Road when he lost control and slammed into a light pole. His passenger, 21-year-old Tamara Gutierrez, also from Sacramento, was in the car at the time. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Images from the crash site showed the vehicle severely damaged and wrapped around the pole, indicating the force of the impact. Preliminary findings from the Elk Grove Police Department suggest that excessive speed likely played a role in the incident.
