Fatal Bastrop County car crash death of Ja Michael Houston – Obituary

Ja Michael Houston, a 20-year-old from Smithville, Texas, lost his life in a deadly car accident on the morning of May 10 in Bastrop County. The collision happened on State Highway 71 near McAllister Road, according to the Texas Highway Patrol.

Houston was a passenger in a 2010 Nissan Sentra that was struck head-on by a 2022 Tesla traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes. Authorities said the Tesla driver was heading westbound when the crash occurred.

Despite efforts by the Nissan driver to avoid the oncoming vehicle, the impact was unavoidable. Houston and another passenger, 18-year-old Chloe Rios, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tesla driver, identified as 33-year-old Zaldivar Espinosa of Austin, was also killed after being transported to a hospital. Officials noted that Espinosa had not been wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the fatal collision.
