Fatal Gold Canyon hiking death of Noah Farabaugh – Obituary

Noah Farabaugh, 33, lost his life on Sunday after a hike in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains took a tragic turn. He was part of a group of five who had been trekking along the Wave Cave trail for roughly six hours in extreme heat when several members began to suffer from heat-related issues.

Around 12:45 p.m., the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the group. Farabaugh had become unresponsive on the trail, prompting a bystander to begin CPR while emergency services were on the way. Despite being only about three-quarters of a mile from the trailhead, rescuers were unable to revive him. He reportedly experienced a seizure followed by cardiac arrest.

Supersition Fire & Medical District and Mesa Fire Department responded to the scene and made multiple attempts to resuscitate Farabaugh, but he was pronounced dead where he fell. The hikers, who had run out of water, refused hospital transport, though no others were seriously injured.

Officials noted that Sunday’s heat was unusually intense for the season and emphasized the importance of proper hydration and heat acclimation before attempting desert hikes.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner will confirm the exact cause of death, though no foul play is suspected.
