Fatal Indianapolis shooting death of Makylah Jean Brent – Obituary
Makylah Jean Brent, 24, lost her life in a shooting that occurred Wednesday night on the east side of Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 6400 block of Massachusetts Avenue. When they arrived, they found Brent suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the gunfire followed a dispute in the parking area of an event center located in that block. IMPD reported finding numerous shell casings at the scene, including multiple calibers, suggesting more than one firearm may have been discharged.
At least one male suspect is being sought in connection to the shooting. Authorities said the suspect fled the area, though it remains unclear whether he escaped on foot or in a vehicle.
Detectives are working to identify any witnesses who may have observed the incident and are also reviewing possible surveillance footage from the vicinity.
Captain John Arvin of the IMPD urged the public to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts, especially during the busy summer season in Indiana. He emphasized the importance of avoiding violence and encouraged people to leave weapons at home.
As of now, police have not released further updates regarding potential suspects or arrests in the case.
