Fatal Middleboro I-495 crash death of Cecil Johnson and Rosemarie Dias – Obituary

Cecil Johnson, 70, and Rosemarie Dias, 68, both residents of Wareham, lost their lives in a fiery single-vehicle accident on Interstate 495 in Middleboro on Thursday, May 15. The crash occurred around 12:28 p.m. near the Cherry Street overpass, according to Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson.

 

Emergency crews arriving at the scene discovered a burning vehicle that had veered off the road and into a wooded area. Firefighters acted swiftly to douse the flames. Authorities reported that Johnson, who was outside the vehicle, and Dias, who was still inside, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The Massachusetts State Police, along with local emergency personnel including Coastal Ambulance, responded to the incident. No other injuries were reported.

 

As a result of the crash, all northbound lanes on I-495 were temporarily shut down. The left lane was later reopened, while the right and breakdown lanes stayed closed for continued emergency operations.

 

The accident remains under investigation by state authorities.
