Fatal Fort Lauderdale shooting death of Myrah Zeigler – Obituary
A 19-year-old woman from Fort Pierce, identified as Myrah Zeigler, was killed early Monday morning during a violent incident at an Airbnb rental in Fort Lauderdale, according to local authorities.
Police responded around 4:30 a.m. to a report of gunfire in the 800 block of Southwest 16th Street. Investigators said a group of adults had gathered at the rental when a disagreement broke out, escalating into a physical altercation. During the dispute, a man pulled a firearm and shot Zeigler.
Responding officers found Zeigler lying in the street with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Broward Health Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries.
Airbnb issued a statement condemning the violence, emphasizing its ban on parties and suspending the guest account responsible for booking the property. They also stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Residents in the area reported hearing a heated exchange before the gunshots. One neighbor claimed to have overheard threats just before the shooting, and video captured during the chaos included sounds suggesting pepper spray may have been deployed.
Witnesses mentioned that police had previously been called to the house earlier that night over noise complaints. Ten minutes after officers initially left, the shooting occurred.
Investigators are working to determine whether the shooting happened inside or outside the home. Items including clothes and a slipper were recovered from the scene. Police continue to interview those present at the time and urge anyone with information to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-5570.
