Fatal Bakersfield car crash death of Anthony Gregory Martinez – Obituary

Anthony Gregory Martinez, a 34-year-old Bakersfield resident, was killed on May 9, 2025, after being struck by vehicles while crossing East California Avenue. According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred near the 700 block just before 9 p.m.

 

Bakersfield Police reported that Martinez was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was initially hit by a car heading east. Moments later, a second vehicle traveling in the same direction also struck him. First responders transported Martinez to Kern Medical, where he later died from his injuries.

 

Authorities stated that the first driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested at the scene. Both drivers remained and cooperated with the investigation. It is currently unclear whether the arrested individual is still in custody.
