Fatal Bemidji suspicious death of Benjamin D. Martinez – Obituary

Benjamin D. Martinez, 41, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday night, May 19, in Bemidji, Minnesota.

According to Bemidji Police, Martinez’s body was discovered inside an apartment at Courtyard Apartments on America Avenue. Alongside him, a woman and a small child were found alive and were taken to Sanford Hospital for treatment before being released.

Initial reports included concerns of a gas leak, but authorities later confirmed that no such leak existed. Investigators suspect Martinez may have died from a drug overdose. However, the Bemidji Police Department, with assistance from the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, is continuing to investigate the death as a potential homicide.

Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
