Fatal Hancock County motorcycle crash death of Eric Edwards – Obituary
Eric Edwards, a 53-year-old motorcyclist from Greenfield, lost his life in a crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of County Road 400 West and U.S. 40, Hancock County authorities reported.
The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on May 18 when Edwards’ motorcycle collided with an SUV driven by an 18-year-old Greenfield woman. The SUV was traveling south on County Road 400 West and turned left onto U.S. 40, entering the motorcycle’s path. The SUV was stopped at a stop sign, but the motorcycle had the right of way, leaving Edwards with insufficient time to avoid the crash. Both the motorcyclist and his passenger, a 52-year-old woman, were ejected from the bike. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was taken to IU Methodist Hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The SUV driver was unharmed and submitted to toxicology testing. Police continue their investigation and remind all motorcyclists to wear helmets for safety.
