Dakota Britthouer, 33, lost his life in a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday morning on the 1500 block of Wood Avenue in Rapid City, South Dakota. Authorities have arrested 17-year-old Omariraine Red Bear in connection with the incident, charging him with first-degree murder.
Red Bear is currently detained at the Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center as the investigation continues. According to police, the suspect and the victim were acquainted, and the shooting is not believed to have been a random act.
Capt. Christian Sigel, who leads the Rapid City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, commended the investigative team for quickly identifying and apprehending Red Bear. “We will not let violent acts like this one become normalized in our community,” he said.
The case remains under active investigation, jointly conducted by Rapid City police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
