Fatal Northeast Washington shooting death of Kian-Wayne Magruder – Obituary
Kian-Wayne Magruder, a 31-year-old resident of Temple Hills, Maryland, was gunned down Tuesday afternoon on a sidewalk in Northeast Washington, near a track meet involving local elementary school students.
Authorities stated that the shooting took place just before 2 p.m. along the 800 block of 26th Street NE. According to D.C. Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, three individuals exited a vehicle and opened fire, striking Magruder. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects fled, and the getaway car was later discovered burned in the Fort Lincoln area.
The gunfire broke out near the bleachers at the site of the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association’s elementary track and field championships. While none of the children or staff were physically harmed, the event was immediately shut down and students were ushered to safety.
Police are working with federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, to track down those responsible. “No child should ever have to experience what happened today,” Chief Smith said. “We will pursue every lead to bring these individuals to justice.”
Later that evening, another fatal shooting claimed the life of 16-year-old Dominique Dingle in the Capitol Riverfront area of Southeast D.C. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot around 9:30 p.m.
D.C. police have not announced any arrests in either case. These two deaths marked the sixth and seventh homicides in the city within just eight days, adding to growing concerns over the rising number of killings in the nation’s capital.
