Fatal Hampton hit-and-run death of Richard Teegarden – Obituary

Richard Teegarden, 52, of Newport News, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Mercury Boulevard in Hampton on Sunday night. Teegarden was using a marked crosswalk at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and North Armistead Avenue when the vehicle hit him and fled the scene.

He was found lying in the road around 10:48 p.m. and later identified by detectives, who informed his family of his passing. Authorities have not yet made any arrests and have not provided details about the vehicle involved in the deadly crash. This incident marks the fifth fatal accident on Mercury Boulevard so far in 2025.
