Fatal Mishawaka train accident death of Victor Smith-Moreland – Obituary

Victor Smith-Moreland, a 16-year-old student at Mishawaka High School, tragically lost his life after being struck by a train while walking home on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Mishawaka police, the incident took place just after 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of Merrifield Avenue and 4th Street. Smith-Moreland was crossing the railroad tracks when he was hit by an eastbound train and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected at this time, though the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

In response to the tragedy, Mishawaka High School has arranged for grief counselors to support students and staff as they process the devastating loss of one of their own.
