Maddy dies in fatal Lenoir daycare incident

Fatal Lenoir daycare death of Maddy – Obituary

A 1-year-old girl named Maddy passed away on Monday during her first visit to Creative Beginnings of Lenoir, a daycare facility in North Carolina. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 2:45 p.m. and found the toddler unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive her, Maddy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities believe she may have suffered cardiac arrest, although an autopsy will determine the definitive cause. Maddy’s mother shared that it was her daughter’s first day at the daycare, and she was informed later that Maddy didn’t wake up from her afternoon nap.

Police have arrested 29-year-old daycare employee Alexandra Coffey, charging her with involuntary manslaughter. She is currently being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Following the tragic incident, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services suspended the daycare’s license, citing urgent concerns for public health and safety. All state-funded childcare subsidies were also halted immediately.

Creative Beginnings has expressed sorrow in a public statement, asking the community to keep Maddy’s family, the staff, and others affected in their prayers. The investigation into the child’s death is ongoing.
