An early morning multi-vehicle collision on Slaton Highway in Lubbock, Texas, led to the deaths of 59-year-old Jerry Crisp and 37-year-old Christopher Lucero. Authorities say the crash involved two motorcycles, a pickup, an SUV, and a train.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Crisp was riding his motorcycle east on US 84 when he veered into the center median and collided with a cable barrier. His motorcycle came to a stop in the westbound lanes, where it was then struck by an SUV. The force of the collision pushed the SUV into a ditch near train tracks, where it was hit by an oncoming train. The SUV driver escaped without injury.
Lucero, who had returned to the crash scene on his motorcycle, entered the roadway from the shoulder and collided with a pickup truck traveling in the left westbound lane. He was rushed to University Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.
Crisp died at the crash site and was not wearing a helmet. Lucero was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The pickup truck driver sustained only minor injuries.
