Fatal southwest Houston hit-and-run death of Egypt – Obituary

A devastating tragedy struck a family in southwest Houston when 2-year-old Egypt lost her life in a hit-and-run incident.

The heartbreaking event occurred at an apartment complex on Ocee Street. According to Egypt’s family, she was struck and fatally injured, and the individual responsible has yet to be identified.

On Wednesday evening, police were called to the complex around 6 p.m. after reports of armed individuals roaming the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a child had also been the victim of a vehicle collision and that the driver had fled the scene.

Egypt’s mother told reporters that they found her unresponsive in the parking lot and called emergency services. When the ambulance didn’t arrive quickly enough, her parents rushed her to the hospital themselves, with her father administering CPR in the back seat. Despite their efforts, Egypt was pronounced dead.

A statement from law enforcement confirmed that Egypt’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

In the aftermath, Egypt’s family frantically searched for answers from neighbors. With no one able to provide information, emotions escalated, and a relative reportedly brandished a firearm, which led to the initial police response.

Resident Justin Jones, who arrived at the complex during the investigation, expressed his sorrow and concern, noting that vehicles frequently speed through the area despite the presence of speed bumps.

Authorities have not released any details regarding a suspect vehicle or driver. It is believed the toddler had been outside with a relative who briefly went indoors, and during that short absence, Egypt was hit.

The case remains under investigation.
