Fatal Boone County car crash death of Steven Gilreath Jr. – Obituary

Steven Gilreath Jr., a 36-year-old man from Fortville, tragically died in a crash on Thursday morning along Interstate 65 in Boone County, Indiana.

Indiana State Police reported the accident occurred just before 8:45 a.m. near the 149 mile-marker, roughly six miles northwest of Lebanon. A trooper discovered the aftermath of a severe collision near the county line between Boone and Clinton.

Gilreath, driving a 2007 Ford, was found unresponsive and trapped inside his vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Initial findings suggest traffic had come to a halt on southbound I-65 when Gilreath’s vehicle struck the rear of a stopped semi-truck in the left lane.

All southbound lanes were shut down for close to three hours as authorities investigated and cleared the crash site.
