Fatal South Memphis shooting death of Jyrah Smith – Obituary
Jyrah Smith, a 23-year-old mother of three, was shot and killed early Friday morning at an apartment complex on Georgia Avenue in South Memphis, according to authorities.
The Memphis Police Department responded to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered Jyrah Smith had died from a gunshot wound.
Her father, Tamarkus Smith, confirmed her identity and shared that she leaves behind three young children, ranging in age from one to six years old. He described the loss as devastating, stating, “She was supposed to bury me. I’m not supposed to bury her.” He suspects her death resulted from a domestic violence dispute that turned deadly.
Authorities reportedly have a suspect in mind, and Tamarkus urged the individual to surrender, emphasizing that police have sufficient evidence to identify and apprehend them.
Jyrah’s uncle, Marcus Clark, recalled a FaceTime call from her the night before her death. He described their 45-minute conversation as filled with laughter and love, during which she spoke excitedly about a new job she had just begun.
The Memphis Police have not yet released further information about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact police or CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274.
