Matthew Kelemen dies in fatal Las Vegas shooting

Fatal Las Vegas shooting death of Matthew Kelemen – Obituary

Matthew Kelemen, a 56-year-old freelance journalist, was reportedly killed by his roommate, Joseph Del Rivo, 63, around May 16 in Las Vegas. Kelemen, known for his contributions to outlets like “Las Vegas Magazine,” “The Daily Beast,” and “Las Vegas Weekly,” was found dead inside a locked container nearly a week after his murder.

The container, dropped off near a business on North 3rd Street in downtown Las Vegas, began emitting a strong odor. A report to the police on May 20 prompted officers to investigate. Upon removing the lock, authorities discovered Kelemen’s body, wrapped in a tarp. The location is a luggage storage business that operates via a mobile app.

Just hours after the discovery, Del Rivo died during a police chase in Utah. Officials reported that he fled from a state trooper at speeds reaching 140 mph on Interstate 70. The pursuit ended with Del Rivo being thrown from the car after losing control.

The local coroner’s office had not yet officially named Kelemen or determined his cause of death at the time, but police suspect he died from blunt force injuries. His final article, a review of Janet Jackson’s residency, was published posthumously.
