Andrew Martin dies in fatal Glendale shooting

Fatal Glendale shooting death of Andrew Martin – Obituary

Andrew Martin lost his life following a deadly shooting on North Iroquois Avenue in Glendale, Wisconsin, on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Authorities have charged 34-year-old John Sweeney with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the incident.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call about gunfire. Upon arrival, they encountered a witness who pointed them toward Martin, who had been shot. John Sweeney came out of a nearby residence with his hands raised and admitted to the officers that he had shot Martin, stating the victim had entered his garage and attacked him. Sweeney also informed them that the firearm was inside the house.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, and police recovered seven shell casings and a 9mm handgun during the investigation. The victim was reportedly the boyfriend of one of Sweeney’s tenants. She told investigators that Martin had stayed at the house the night before because he was intoxicated and she didn’t want him driving.

The following morning, tensions escalated when Sweeney grew irritated that Martin was still there and had blocked his vehicle. The two had a confrontation during which Sweeney allegedly drew a firearm and fired shots. Martin left but later returned, and another argument broke out. The tenant said she heard raised voices followed by three gunshots, then another three after she went to call 911. She later found Martin wounded near the garage.

During an interview, Sweeney told officers that Martin confronted and punched him, prompting him to draw his weapon and fire in what he described as self-defense.

Sweeney was taken into custody and made his initial court appearance on May 23, 2025, in Milwaukee County.
