Sixteen-year-old Azriel Loyd was killed during a shooting at a Mesa apartment complex on the night of May 21, 2025, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Police responded around 10 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the area near U.S. 60 and Val Vista Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Loyd and an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, where Loyd was later pronounced dead. The man was expected to recover, authorities reported.

Investigators determined that Loyd had been hosting a gathering at the apartment that evening. During the event, Loyd and the wounded man had allegedly arranged to meet someone with the intention of committing a robbery.

A suspect vehicle was later tracked to Litchfield Park, and multiple individuals have since been interviewed by detectives, including two people identified as key leads. However, no arrests had been made as of the latest update.

Mesa police stated they believe the incident was isolated and are continuing to seek witnesses who may have seen the shooting unfold.
